Guided Biofilm Therapy

Guided Biofilm Therapy

Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is an advanced approach to dental cleaning and oral hygiene management.

This method focuses on complete removal of dental biofilm (plaque) from the teeth and gums, along with stain removal and prevention.

Here at Art of Dental Care, we’re moving away from the traditional methods of scaling and polishing teeth as a treatment for gum disease, and are moving over to this minimally invasive (and more effective) therapy, which is now the gold standard in dentistry.

This treatment is used by leading gum specialists throughout the world, and we are now proud to offer Guided Biofilm Therapy at our practice, as we believe our patients deserve the best level of care possible.

How does Guided Biofilm Therapy work?

GBT treats and prevents gum disease by targeting bacteria, using a dye to identify it.

Then, a technique called “airflow” is used, which utilises a warm water flushing system to kill and remove the plaque.

The airflow system also gently removes stains that may be caused by coffee, tea, smoking and certain dietary factors, leaving teeth looking whiter and feeling smooth.

The ultrasonic scaler the system uses is exceptionally gentle in removing plaque build up from your teeth.

The system has been designed to maximise comfort, and uses warm water to prevent tooth sensitivity. We apply a special strengthening cream to your enamel at the end of your treatment that applies essential nutrients to your tooth surface to keep it in optimal health.

What does Guided Biofilm Therapy involve?

GBT takes a comprehensive treatment approach that consists of three main steps:

  1. Assessment: One of our professionals at Art of Dental Care will conduct a thorough examination to assess the overall oral health and identify areas of concern.
  2. Treatment: This phase involves an individualised approach, where several steps are followed to remove the biofilm, plaque and stains effectively.
  3. Maintenance: After the initial treatment, an expert member of our team Art of Dental Care will provide guidance on proper oral hygiene practices and suggest a maintenance plan. It’s also important to schedule regular follow-up visits to monitor your oral health, and maintain the fantastic benefits of GBT.
