“A bit of background: I had my fixed retainer fitted after NHS braces at the Countess of Chester Hospital orthodontic clinic, and it’s served me proud for over 20 years – unbelievable! "What an Amazing Practice this is ! I went to my own Dentist with an exposed nerve in a tooth 3 weeks before x mas. He could not do anything until 17 Feb26. He attempted to extract the tooth & could only remove everything above the gum. What is a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is a situation where immediate dental care is required to alleviate severe pain, stop bleeding, relieve swelling, save a tooth or address a serious oral health issue.
What should I do if I have a tooth knocked out?
If a tooth is knocked out completely, it's important to act quickly. Retrieve the tooth if possible, handling it by its crown (the top part) and avoiding touching the root. How can I alleviate a severe toothache?

How can I handle a dental abscess?
Dental abscesses are infections that require immediate attention.
Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater to help alleviate pain. This can also help to draw out some of the infection.
Avoid applying cold or heat to the affected area.
Contact a dentist immediately for an emergency appointment. The dentist may prescribe antibiotics to control the infection and perform a root canal treatment or extract the affected tooth, depending on the severity of the abscess.
